Switch It, Pool It & Unplug It!
06.30.09 The Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato are getting together to spread the word about making our world a better place environmentally. The foursome has created a public service announcement in conjunction with Disney's campaign called "Friends for Change: Project Green." The campaign will kick off July 11th. Their PSA uses the phrase "Switch it, pool it, and unplug it." Switch it refers to turning off lights when they're not in use to save energy. Pool it means that you should carpool to school & other activities to decrease air pollution and save fuel. Unplug is explained by the teen stars is to unplug your charger from the wall when it's not in use & to not keep your phone plugged to the charger if it doesn't need to be. Here's hoping that these uber popular teens can get the message across to the next generation that we need to start paying more attention to our earth & resources. (PR Photos)
2nd Album for "Idol" Alum Blake Lewis
06.30.09 Remember that adorable, funky little blonde guy that would beatbox on "American Idol" and always left with a lasting impression? Yeah, that guy. Well, Blake Lewis' second album is set to drop October 6th and will be called "Heartbreak on Vinyl." For those of you that don't know, vinyl is how people used to listen to music before cd's & mp3's. Vinyl is a record album. Blake's album is an ode to the record stores that have been closing because of the current state of the music world. The first single, "Sad Song," will be released in July, so at least we don't have to wait until October to hear pop melodies and kickin' dance tunes. (PR Photos)
Avril's New Album!
06.29.09 For all you princess punk fans out there, Miss Avril Lavigne has announced that her fourth album will hopfully be released sometime in November. One of the singles will be a song she wrote for her Black Star perfume commercial. Avril's sound came to us with her first album in 2002 which made it all the way up to number two on the BillBoard Hot 200. Within a few years of her freshman album, she came out with two more. It's been a few years without a new hit song from Avril, so we're hoping for another fun summer hit! (PR Photos)
World's Ugliest Dog 06.28.09 We've all heard of beauty contests, but what about ugly contests? There's an annual contest to find the World's Ugliest Dog, and honestly I'm not crazy about it. I think all doggies are cute in their own way. But, there's a lot of crazy stuff in this world, so I guess this isn't too bad. A California mutt ran home with first prize and $1,600. Pabst, a boxer-mix dog from a shelter beat out a Chinese Crest named Rascal that has been dominating the contest in recent years. This was the first time Pabst participated in the contest. Apparently he won over the crowd and judges immediately. Well, congrats to Pabst...I guess?

Giant Pez Dispenser in Trouble 06.27.09 We all love Pez, those little candy dispensers where you tilt the head back & that sweet tiny rectagle candy pops out. Well, there's a museum dedicated to Pez in California & the Pez company is suing them! The owners of the museum created a giant snowman Pez and the company claims it's trademark infringement and that the snowman should be destroyed. The creators of the snowman are confused because they see it as a work of art and not something they will distribute. Apparently, this isn't the first issue Pez has had with this museum. They forced them before to change the name of the musem. Such a little candy, such big problems! (tinypic)
I Want a Pet Giraffe, too!
06.27.09 "Timmy, have you fed the giraffe today?" Imagine if that's what your parent asked you every morning!! Well, a Washington state couple paid a large amount of money to own a 26 day old giraffe. They picked the giraffe up in Virginia from a zoo and took him on a cross country trip to his new home. The giraffe, named Karson, will live at their home for about four months before he'll move to a 12,000 acre farm ranch which the family owns. Several other types of kewl animals are also at the farm including zebras, bison and camels.

One Lucky Turtle 06.25.09 A pilot at an Australian airport put his steering skills to the text when he saw an obstacle on the runway. A turtle made his way onto the runway and was strolling along when the airplane came upon him. Fortunately, the pilot swerved out of the way because the plane was going slowly enough to do so. The turtle was appropriately named Lucky and was released to a nearby freshwater creek. That is one dare devil of a turtle!

The Brooklyn special-needs student achieved this honor by winning a national essay contest by writing about his real-life hero, his teacher, Matthew Brown. Thanks to the Stone Arch Books national essay contest for inspiring Hakeem and letting him be a part of an iconic comic book series! (tinypic)

Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Los Angeles & Las Vegas are some of the major cities that have the pleasure of hosting Ms. Spears as she struts her stuff under the big top! (PR Photos)
Sea Lion on the Loose! 06.23.09 Oh where, oh where has my sea lion gone, oh where oh where can he be? Have you checked a highway in California because one was found there on Monday! Around 5:45am, police were called to check out the little guy wandering along the center divider of the highway. The cops arrived at the scene, opened the door to their car and the sea lion climbed right on in! The Marin Marine Mammal Center came by to pick up the lost pup to take him in for evaluation. He was a little shy and hid under the polic car for a bit, but eventually made his way out to be taken care of. Let's hope he'll be swimming in the ocean again soon.

Hundreds of fans came out to watch the leggy blonde receive her star, along with fames such as Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and fellow Charlie's Angel, Lucy Liu. Miley & Nick Singing on Stage: S-I-N-G-I-N-G!
06.22.09 Jonas Brothers fans that were present for the kick off of their tour in Dallas sure got a sweet treat on Saturday! Miley Cyrus joined her ex-boyfriend, Nick Jonas, on stage to sing the duet "Before the Storm." Wow! The two have been spotted out and about together, but neither young star will confirm that they are lovebirds once again. We'll keep our peepers peeled for more Miley and Nick sightings! (PR Photos)
Amazing Hero Puppy! 06.22.09 A seven month old bulldog puppy named Rocky saved the life of his owner and her family in New Jersey. Nicole, the pup's owner, said he was whimpering around 2:00am, which is unlike him. She let him out, but when they came back in the house, he began to fret around the door to the garage. Nicole opened the door surprised to see the garage in flames! She woke her family, called 911 and left the house. However, Rocky's heroism wasn't done! He ran across the street & the family followed him, only to leave an explosion in the house behind them. What a smart pup! (tinypic)
Happy Summer Solstice!
06.21.09 The summer solstice is the official wording for what most of us call the first day of Summer. It usually occurs around June 21 and is the longest day and the shortest night of the year! This is because the Sun gets very high in the sky for people living in places north of the equator like the United States, Europe, and China. The Sun stays above the horizon for more than 12 hours on that day. So here's to the kewlest Summer ever! (tinypic)
Phelps Beats Own Record 06.21.09 Talk about being your own best competitor! Making history by earning eight Olympic gold medals apparently isn't good enough for Michael Phelps. Saturday he out did himself by shaving off one tenth of a second of his time for the 100-meter butterfly. WOW. He broke his record while competing in the Canada Cup. Next up for Michael will take part in the World Championships in Italy on July 18th. Way to go, Michael!

Rare Panda has Triplets!
06.20.09 Three precious tiny rare red pandas were born at the Red River Zoo in Fargo, North Dakota. This is great because this kind of panda is an endangered species. The babies are five inches long & weigh about 166 and 232 grams. How sweet! They're white, black and tan right now, but will turn red in about a month. Zoo keepers didn't know mama was pregnant until she gave birth to the triplets. If you want to see the pandas, they'll go on exhibit at the end of August.

Teen Boy Raises $20,000 for Camp 06.20.09 A motivated 14 year old boy raised $20,000 for his camp after completing a four day, 100 mile trip in his wheelchair! Gene Fletcher wanted to raise money for the Bay Cliff Health Camp which he has been going to for six years. It's a nonprofit wellness center in upper Michigan for children and adults with physical disabilities. Despite his cerebral palsy and scoliosis, Gene conquered those 100 miles in his powered wheelchair, is proud of himself and has every right to be. Way to go, Gene!
06.19.09 When diners at StingRay's seafood restaurant on Tybee Island went out to dinner, the last thing they expected was a performance by Miley Cyrus. But that is exactly what she gave them. While on the island off the coast of Georgia, Miley is filming the movie "The Last Song." She went out for dinner and got the urge to do a little singin', asked to borrow a guitar & went to town on two songs. After she was done, she was whisked out a side door to her car. The folks of Typee Island and Savannah should expect many Miley sightings over the Summer.

Miley's a Single Gal
06.09.09 It was a good run while it lasted, but Miley Cyrus has called it quits with her bf of nine months, Justin Gaston. The single sixteen year old decided to end her relationship with the twenty year old model before heading off to Georgia to film her upcoming movie, "The Last Song." Apparently, time apart has been rough on the couple. But also, rumor has it that Miley's been spending time with her ex, Nick Jonas, which may have added a bit of stress to her relationship with Justin. Hmm, it will be interesting to watch this play out over the Summer! Miley's too young to be tied down anyway. (PR Photos)
12 Year Old Girl Names New Rover
06.09.09 A clever sixth grader from Kansas won an essay competition for naming the next Mars rover. She dubbed the rover "Curiosity" and was flown to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. While there, she wore a protective outfit called a "bunny suit" so she could enter the room housing the rover she named so that she could sign it. Her family also came out west with her for the trip and took a tour of the Laboratory. Way to go girl for naming the next rover! We think that's ultra kewl! (tinypic)

Digging for Dinos
06.08.09 This is an exciting time for paleontologists! The Hanksville-Burpee Dinosaur Quarry in Salt Lake City, Utah is overflowing with dinosaur bones. There are stacks and stacks of bones, which are believed to have been guided by a stream to this final destination. Sixty to seventy bones have been found in recent months and last week a 20 foot long neck bone was discovered! With the remains of these bones, trees and other elements of the area, scientists hope to piece together what life was like 145 to 150 million years ago. Exposed bones can be seen on the sit for a quarter-mile. This site is going to be a major source of digging & discovering for the next decade! The could be a great trip to take with your family. Tours of the site are scheduled to last through June 20. (tinypic)

If you liked his sound on "AI," then you'll his album, which he says will have the same vibe. We hope the music videos won't be too far behind so that we can gaze at that cute face!

Kids Set Baseball Record
06.07.09 Talk about extra innings! About 800 kids in Massachusettes kept a baseball going for 36 hours to set a new world record. Not only was the game for the accolades, but also, it was to raise money for charity. The game went for a whopping 101 innings with a final score of 348-339. They beat the previous record of the longest game which was 32 hours in 2007. The seemingly never ending game raised about $75,000 for the March of Dimes, Curt's Pitch for ALS and their local Food Bank. (tinypic)
Heidi Hospitalized
06.06.09 Heidi Montag of Speidi fame, was sent to a hospital Saturday while participating in the television show, "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here." The show takes place in a Costa Rican jungle and the celebrities compete in tasks and are without daily life luxuries. Heidi's family is stating that she was without food and water for almost three days and Heidi thought she was dying. The show's producers say that they're blowing it out of proportion. They say that Heidi and Spencer spent 14 hours in a cave, but slept most of the time. Speidi actually quit the show three times within two days, but keep coming back to prove they can do it and to earn money for their charity. I wonder if they'll make it to the end! (PR Photos)
Teen Chef Gets Own Show!
06.06.09 Greg Grossman is not your average fourteen year old. He attends junior high school during the day and is a top chef with some of the world's best chefs at night. When does he have time to study? Or date?! Greg was raised in East Hampton, New York, and just signed a deal for his own reality television series. Wait, so that means he's going to be even busier?? Greg began his career with food at age eleven as a caterer. Way to go, Greg, but make sure to keep your grades up while making tummies happy! (tinypic)

If you're not a basketball fan, there's a good reason to watch the NBA finals this Sunday, June 7th. The recently crowned cutie of "American Idol," Kris Allen, will be singing the National Anthem before the game. Kris seems to be a little nervous and just wants to make it through the song without making a mistake. Kris will follow in a long line of "American Idol" winners to sing the anthem. 06.04.09 Our fave hottie vamp is taking a break from "New Moon" filming to start production of his next project. Robert Pattison will star in"Remember Me" along side Emilie de Ravin, the blonde beauty from ABC's "Lost." Robert plays a guy who goes through the motions with life after his brother's death. Emilie plays a gal who lives life to the fullest after witnessing her mother's death. The two meet and the movie happens. No, we're not jealous of Emilie. No, not one bit. HA! (Photo: PR Photos)
Students Collect Pennies for Charity
06.04.09 When you see that penny on the ground and think "oh, it's just a penny" and pass it by, think again. Those pennies can really add up! And fortunately for a group of fifth graders at a San Antonio middle school, those pennies added up to more than $10,000! The kids collected over one million pennies to donate to the Guadalupe County Children's Advocacy Center, which assists abused and neglected children. We sure hope those kewl kids are proud of themselves because their kind and charitable act is going to put a smile on the faces of many children :) (Photo: tinypic)

Tortoise on the Loose!
06.03.09 You would think that it would be hard to lose a 52-pound tortoise, but it happened. A Pennsylvania woman accidentally left a gate to her yard slightly ajar and her pet tortoise, Nala, made its way through, wanting to explore the neighborhood. A passerby saw Nala and took her to a local reptile rescue center. The man who found Nala read a story online about a missing tortoise and figured it had to be the same one. Yeah, unless this town is known for its missing tortoises or something ;) Fortunately, Nala is now back at home and a better, more secure gate is going to be installed to make sure this doesn't happen again. (Photo: tinypic)

Man & Dog Reunited After 4 Years!
06.02.09 A New Orleans man was forced to leave his precious pup, J.J., behind when he was evacuated from his home during Hurricane Katrina. He said he left plenty of food and a comfortable area for J.J. in an elevated part of his house, thinking he would return in a few days. Actually, a few weeks had passed before he was allowed to return home...to no J.J. An animal rescue group had saved J.J., which resulted in him being shuffled between animal groups before finally ending up across the country in California. J.J. was adopted by a woman. The owner tracked down J.J. and the adoptive owner was reluctant to hand over J.J. But with the help of the Katrina Animal Reunion Team and a California lawyer, J.J. and original owner were happily reunited. Happy endings do exist :) (Photo: Tinypic)
