Miley loves her Frozen Yogurt!
August 31, 2008 Miley Cyrus was seen getting herself a kewl frozen treat at YogurTree today in Studio City. The bright pink sweatsuit made it easy to spot her while helping herself to a serving of frozen yogurt made from organic non-fat milk. Happy Birthday, Cameron!  August 30, 2008 Cameron Diaz is celebrating another awesome year! This talented lady was modeling in the very early stages of adulthood but at the age of 21, she auditioned for a big part in The Mask (1994) and despite having no previous acting experience, she was cast as the female lead in the film opposite Jim Carrey! Selena Gomez’s new music video “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know” just hit the net yesterday! It’s from her new DVD movie “Another Cinderella Story” in which she co-stars with Drew Seeley from the original High School Musical concert series. The whole movie is set to come out on September 16th, and we’re pretty upset that it won’t be in a theatre – the dancing looks fierce! Jonas Still Number One!
Aug 27, 2008 For the second week in a row, the new Jonas Brothers album “A Little Bit Longer” rocks the top of the charts! Even though it took a huge plunge in sales from its first week out, no other artists sales could even touch it. It’s also humorous that Billboard can report these figures, and yet can’t seem to keep a pic of the guys up on their site that is less than two years old!!! It’s not like they’ve been hiding from the camera! Wake up and smell the future, guys! Rounding out the top 2 thru 10 are: Kid Rock – “Rock‘n’Roll Jesus”, Staind – “Illusion of Progress”, “Mamma Mia!” Soundtrack, Ice Cube - “Raw Footage”, Miley Cyrus – “Breakout”, Lil Wayne – “Tha Carter III”, Sugarland – “Love on the Inside”, “Camp Rock” Soundtrack, and “Schwayze”. The ABC show High School Musical: Get In the Picture had a very special guest recently. Though none of the core cast had promised to appear in the show, they’ve been showing their appreciation for their fans, and the effect they’ve had on kids everywhere, by taking the time to come and visit the competitors. So when Zac Efron visited the set, the surprise was intense! Bailey, was floored, and all the girls swooned, while the guys were super impressed with the way he handled the whole situation. It’s interesting how when you get to meet your idols, you get an even better idea of WHY they are where they are! We think it’s kewl that Zac took the time out of his busy schedule! FOB Part ‘Deux’ Aug 26, 2008
Fall Out Boy fans may now start their countdowns! While touring, marrying and starting a family for bassist Pete Wentz, the band still managed to record and mix their next album “Folie a Deux”, and it will be ready for release on November 4th! These guys are really workaholics! Slackers beware – success in the music business will not be yours! Yesterday, the guys released a ‘digital mixtape’ called “Welcome to the New Administration” which featured 5 new songs that should appear on the final album. The band hasn’t officially named it’s first ‘single’ from the new album, but with five songs already out there, doesn’t that kind of make it a moot point?!? The classic ‘is it for Halloween or is it for Christmas?” animated film from master of the slightly creepy Tim Burton, “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is being released today in Hi-DEF! They’re calling it the “Collector’s Edition”, so everything else is just a repeat of the old technology, and with no new and fun added features! Right now, you can go online and view sketches by the artists who created the look and feel of Halloween Town, Christmas Town and all the characters who live in each. On the DVD (also now available in Blu-ray), there is an all new commentary by director Tim Burton, deleted scenes, and new featurettes on the creation of the different worlds of ‘Nightmare’. Whether you like your entertainment a bit off-center, you love a good romance, you can’t get enough of musicals, or your really into creative art and animation, this is a release to celebrate!

A new TV show is being created by Tyler Perry (House of Payne) based on his play and movie “Meet the Browns”. TBS, the network that also airs House of Payne, will be home to the new show starring David Mann as Larry Brown, and will pick up the story just as he inherits an old house from his father. Perry also has a new movie coming out soon called “The Family That Preys” – which is a pun on the old saying “the family that prays together, stays together”. The fast growing Tyler Perry Empire, which began with one-man plays that Perry wrote and starred in, playing all the characters, has grown into much more, with many of his 11 plays made into movies, two TV shows, and a studio complex to be opened this October! He’s one of the highest earning producer’s out there for one main reason: he owns everything he’s made. DNC Music! Aug 25, 2008
At the Democratic National Convention – the place where the Democratic Party gets together and officially nominates their candidate for US President, things got off to a musical start! Outside Denver, where the convention is being held this year, at the world famous music venue Red Rocks, stars including Sheryl Crow, John Legend, Dave Matthews and Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush performed in support of the Hope they feel Barak Obama represents. It’s not often that a country band like Sugarland will come out on the non-Republican side of the political spectrum, but as the entire convention has been designed by Denver’s mayor to be completely ‘green’, they felt comfortable in showing their support for this issue that they feel very strongly about. Sheryl Crow slightly changed the lyrics of her song Strong Enough, from ‘strong enough to be my man’ to ‘strong enough to be my president’, while John Legend premiered an entirely new song that he calls a ‘call to action’ for the young in America called “If You’re Out There”. For the first time since the show started, American Idol will be adding a new judge! Instead of just our regular three of Simon, Paula and Randy, a fourth judge will join in on the crazy. Her name is Kara DioGuardi, and even if you haven’t heard of her, EVERYONE in the music business has! She’s a multi-Grammy nominated songwriter that has had her songs performed by everyone from Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Pink and more! Happy Birthday, Rupert!  August 24, 2008 This Harry Potter star best known as Harry's bestfriend Ron turns 20 today! When auditioning for the movie "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," Rupert decided to do something different and performed hip-hop lyrics that he wrote to promote himself for the role of Ron Weasley. August 24, 2008 Happy Birthday to Chad Michael Murray! This heart-throb is 27 today! He's "Lucas Scott" on One Tree Hill, but we first started seeing him on Gilmore Girls and Dawson's Creek. We would have seen Chad on TV either way because he was originally supposed to play the role of "Ryan Atwood" on The O.C. but turned it down to be on One Tree Hill... kewl huh? When asked what he would be doing if he wasn't acting, Chad said he would have liked to be a pediatrician, but lucky for us that's not the case!
HSM3 Pep-Rally!
August 24, 2008 Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale got the crowd going at the Disney "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" Ultimate Fan Pep Rally on Saturday at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. 1000 HSM fans won the chance to be a part of a pep rally viewing of the HSM and HSM2 sing-a-long version. August 23, 2008 Disney sensation Miley Cyrus is planning to hold her sweet 16 bash at California's Disneyland October 5th. Tickets for the bash go on sale August 30th so be sure to mark that on your kewlest calendar! Miley shared her wish list with Radio Disney and stated that she wants a car, a Wii Fit and a puppy. Miley told Radio Disney on August 21 that she "definitely want to get something bad on the road," and that it has to be "big enough for all my friends and to scare all the cars away from me. I'm a good driver but it's everyone else that I'm worried about!" Miley also decided that she's ready to be a mature lady. "This year one of my goals is not to stress just kind of let life come as it is. I'm going to try and do that a little more. Just take things step by step instead of always having a plan." This sounds like so much fun, we might not go anywhere but the movies on Labor Day weekend: Universal Studios has decided to take a cue from the movie audiences for their film “Mamma Mia” who just can’t stop singing along with the movie, and are releasing “Mamma Mia! The Sing-A-Long Edition” into theatres for the holiday weekend! Sure, they’ll make more money on the movie, but at least now we all get to sing along without anyone getting to ‘shush’ us! Sisters Are Doing It AgainAug 19, 2008 Almost 20 years after Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin got together and sang the girl anthem “Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves” and about ten years after Destiny’s Child sang “Independent Women”, the women of music are back at it with a new power anthem for us all. “Just Stand Up” will debut on September 2nd, and feature the voice talents of Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Ashanti, Melissa Etheridge, Natasha Bedingfield, LeAnn Rimes, Carrie Underwood, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, and Leona Lewis. All these ladies have come together not just to record this song, but to donate their services, as all proceeds from sales of the single will go to cancer research. All 15 ladies will also be on hand to perform the single live on September 5th during the all star “Stand Up to Cancer” television special, where many more stars of television, sports and film will be on hand to show their support for finding cures for cancer. After the heartbreaking move of the next installment of the Harry Potter films to a summer 2009 release, our mood can improve slightly, as this has made room for an earlier release date for the highly anticipated Twilight! Moved up nearly a month from it’s originally planned December 12th premiere date to Potter’s old pre-Thanksgiving November 21st date, we’ll have that much longer to watch, and re-watch, this romantic teen tale.

At yesterday’s ALMA Awards, the hit TV show Ugly Betty took home a few of the top prizes for their actors. The entire cast won for best ensemble cast, and America Ferrera also took the big one – Entertainer of the Year. She even took home the award for Special Achievement in a Spanish-language film. The ALMA (which is Spanish for ‘spirit’ or ‘soul’) awards honor achievement in the arts by Latino actors and actresses, musicians, singers, producers, writers, directors, fashion designers, stage managers, filmmakers and comedians. August 16, 2008 Lately It's been all about The Jonas Brothers. Ask any KewlMag reader or tween for that matter and they'll probably yell out "Oh my gosh I love them!" (It’s ok girls, we at KewlMag love them too!) The Jonas Brothers are currently in NYC and staying at the Columbus Circle Hotel. Tweens from all over have parked themselves all over the hotel hoping to catch a glimpse of the brothers. "It's like when The Beatles landed at JFK," said an onlooker. VMA Surprises Aug 15, 2008
After the embarrassment of Britney Spears Video Music Awards performance last year, it looks like she may be on track to take the top honor just one year later! The video of her song “Piece of Me” is nominated for Video of the Year, and there are even rumors that she may be back to make up for her sloppy show last year. If you’ve seen her work since the beginning of 2008, including her stint on “How I Met Your Mother”, her role in one of Madonna’s in-concert videos and playing herself in ads for the VMA’s themselves, then you know she’s back on track, and could really put on a showstopper this year. Maybe listening to your parents never goes out of style! Other nominees for Video of the Year are The Jonas Brothers for “Burnin Up”, Chris Brown for “Forever”, Pussycat Dolls for “When I Grow Up” and the Ting Tings for “Shut Up and Let Me Go”. Best rock video was also announced today, with the contenders being Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Slipknot, Linkin Park and the Foo Fighters. As we previously reported, all nominees are being decided through online voting from fans like you, so get your parents permission to go to MTV.com, and make sure you’re faves are getting the nominations they deserve!
Potter Stopped
Aug 15, 2008 In a heartbreaking move (well, for us anyway!) The next Harry Potter movie will NOT be coming out November 21st as planned! The decision has nothing to do with the movie, and everything to do with money. No kidding! The studios are complaining that last winter’s writer’s strike put them off production schedule, leaving them with nothing that will be ready to release next summer. If you believe that or not (since they have a FULL YEAR to make movies from now, and One and a half year’s since the end of the writer’s strike!), there are also a few other things to consider: All of the Potter movies that have premiered in summer have made significantly more money than the ones that have premiered in the winter holiday season! And lest we forget, “Twilight” will be premiering this holiday season, and could cut into the re-viewing business that is a part of every Potter films profit. We’re too heartbroken to go on…

After Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” has topped the charts for seven straight weeks this summer, Rihanna’s “Disturbia” has finally ended the party. Nearly two months of chanting about kissing girls, and now we’re disturbed?!? Deep psychological meaning there somewhere…lol! Chris Brown’s “Forever” is at number two, “Kissed a Girl” at 3, Rihanna again with “Take a Bow” at 4, and the track “Paper Planes” by M.I.A. is at 5 after it appeared on the trailer for last weekend’s new hit comedy “Pineapple Express”. In other chart news, it looks like the Jonas Brothers’ new album is aimed and fired toward the number one spot for the week – let’s hope it stays the course! Now the tables have turned, and the Jonas Brothers haven’t forgotten who they have to thank for their success! For the next leg of their “Burnin Up” tour, the Veronicas will be joining them as their opening act! The twins – neither of whom is named Veronica – are out to support their new album, “Hook Me Up” which is hitting the streets on August 26th. The tour begins two days earlier on the 22nd, and until then, the guys are still on tour with Demi, and currently filming for their upcoming 3-D movie in New York's Central Park! The unsigned and surging forward new Radio Disney star of the moment is Savannah Outen! She’s managed to rock right to the top of the Radio Disney chart, without even being a Disney kid! This girl is fast becoming the most popular kid in town. A few weeks ago, she came by to visit with KEWL, before heading off for her official take-over of Radio Disney, and talked about growing up in a small town in Oregon, and what it might be like to be on top of the music business like Selena or Demi. We think she might be getting what it feels like for real now. Beating out the cast of HSM 3, Miley and the Jonas Brothers to take the top spot is no little accomplishment.
Cheetahs With Pashminas!Aug 13, 2008 Last night, the Cheetah Girls held the premiere for their newest made for TV movie “The Cheetah Girls: One World” at the beautiful El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. The movie is set in India, and makes the most of the great Bollywood tradition of lavish movie musicals mixed with the kewl Cheetah sound. The red carpet was covered with gorgeously colorful clothes, both for the girls and the guys, and since KEWL was there, we’ll have all the coverage in an upcoming issue. In the meantime, set your schedule to be there for the Disney Channel premiere on Friday @ 8pm, with an encore on Saturday night, and a sing-a-long version on Sunday! In preparation for hosting the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, the Chinese Olympic Committee not only made sure to give the world one of the most amazing and beautiful opening ceremonies in history, but they also had a plan. Beginning five years ago, they looked at all the Olympic events, and analyzed where there was room for the Chinese to excel and take more gold medals. Since then, they scouted sports talent and trained the athletes extensively, and so far, this five year plan is paying off! With 13 Gold medals so far, they have nearly double the gold that the USA has. Meanwhile, the US leads in silver and bronze medals, giving us the highest total medal count. Who won what? Swimmer Michael Phelps already has three golds – two individual and one relay, bringing his lifetime total to 9 gold medals, while two other golds came from swimmers Natalie Coughlin and Aaron Piersol. Paramore Gears Up Aug 8, 2008
Completely counter to any rumors that the band Paramore may be breaking up, they’re actually gearing up for their next album! Going in to the last leg of their Riot! tour, they’ve been sneaking in some practice time on some new tunes during the sound-checks for each performance. Lead guitarist Josh Farro has been working out some new melodies and lead singer Hayley Williams has been flowing on the lyrics, but nothing is ‘studio ready’ just yet. The group is looking forward to the fall to really concentrate on fully realizing the new songs and getting them to that stage. If all goes well, we can look for a new, and more mature set of tunes sometime next summer! A summer anthem by Paramore wouldn’t be so bad, would it? (photo: pr photos)
Olympics Open Up
Aug 8, 2008 Tonight at 7:30pm on NBC, the 2008 Summer Olympic Games open with a spectacular opening ceremony! Since China is 15 hours ahead of California, the opening ceremonies have already taken place there, and we are just waiting to see them at a more appropriate time for us! By all accounts, they are/were breathtakingly spectacular – so spectacular that NBC has moved the airtime forward from 8pm in order to show more of the festivities! And that’s saying something, since the date today is 8.8.08 and 8pm would have been so perfect!!! If you find can’t wait until tonight, we’re pretty sure that coverage can be found on the web already. We are waiting for the evening performance, however! So much more festive! Over 200 of the world’s countries have sent athletes to compete, and the opening ceremonies are where you get to see them all! Even the countries with only one competitor! So kewl! (photo: pr photos)
Catch a Falling Star!
Aug 7, 2008 You might not really be able to catch a falling star, but if you want to see one, or even a whole bunch, it’s time to start planning some start watching nights right now! August is the month for Perseid Meteor Shower viewing in the northern hemisphere. That means right now, and especially on August 12th early, early in the morning (between 4 and 5am!), you’ll be able to see more falling stars than at any other time of the year! During that time, you can see 60 or more falling stars per hour!!! The meteors that cause this natural fireworks show are from the tail of the comet Swift-Tuttle (usually named after the people who first observed it). Even though the comet is currently somewhere beyond the planet Uranus, the trail of meteors it leaves behind stretches all the way back to earth’s orbit around the sun! We pass through the trail from mid July to late August every year, and that’s when the magic begins. Below are some tips from NASA: Serious meteor hunters will begin their watch early, on Monday evening, August 11th, around 9 pm when Perseus first rises in the northeast. This is the time to look for Perseid Earthgrazers--meteors that approach from the horizon and skim the atmosphere overhead like a stone skipping across the surface of a pond. "Earthgrazers are long, slow and colorful; they are among the most beautiful of meteors," says Cooke. He cautions that an hour of watching may net only a few of these at most, but seeing even one can make the whole night worthwhile. A warm summer night. Bright meteors skipping overhead. And the peak is yet to come. What could be better? The answer lies halfway up the southern sky: Jupiter and the gibbous Moon converge on August 11th and 12th for a close encounter in the constellation Sagittarius: sky map. It's a grand sight visible even from light-polluted cities. For a while the beautiful Moon will interfere with the Perseids, lunar glare wiping out all but the brightest meteors. Yin-yang. The situation reverses itself at 2 am on Tuesday morning, August 12th, when the Moon sets and leaves behind a dark sky for the Perseids. The shower will surge into the darkness, peppering the sky with dozens and perhaps hundreds of meteors until dawn. For maximum effect, "get away from city lights," Cooke advises. The brightest Perseids can be seen from cities, he allows, but the greater flurry of faint, delicate meteors is visible only from the countryside. (Scouts, this is a good time to go camping.) HSM star Monique Coleman is in training for the 2008 Nautica Malibu Triathlon to benefit Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. She’s already looking great, and she’ll have to be in great shape as she’ll be competing in a run, a swim AND a bike ride racing competition, and without a break! Monique has been spending a lot of quality time helping out in her community, even spending time bringing awareness to the charity America’s Second Harvest, which helps food banks around the country get donations for the needy. Aug 5, 2008 Since there’s no lack of star talent in the movie Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, the girls have decided to divide and conquer! First, America Ferrera, Blake Lively and Amber Tambyn made an early morning visit to Good Morning America, then later Alexis Bledel joined America and Blake to take her turn at TRL yesterday, talking about the film and putting down old rumors and stories. Blake even explained away an internet photo that was on the line recently that claimed her dog had peed on her! “I spilled something on my dress. I didn’t want it to stain, so I stuck my dress under the sink and was running out the door. I’m holding Penny, and every magazine prints that Penny peed on me. It wasn’t Penny!” See! Spoiler alert! If you plan on watching the 10th Annual Teen Choice Awards tonight – don’t keep reading! We will be listing the winners here! Okay – you’ve been warned! Yesterday KEWL was at the 10th Annual Teen Choice Awards at the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal Studios Hollywood, and the company was truly ‘choice’! The one and only Miley hosted the night, and managed to take home three ‘surfboards’ at the same time, as well as continuing the now legendary dance-off between herself and BFF Mandy Jiroux and Adam Sevani and Jon Chu’s ACDC dance crew. As queen of the night, it’s hardly surprising that Miles was named champion! Both the Jonas Brothers and the hipsters from Gossip Girl grabbed 6 ‘surfboards’ each, and the JoBros were on hand all night taking an active part in the madcap fun. Complete Solar Eclipse
Aug 1, 2008 Today, there was a complete eclipse of the sun…if you happened to live in Northern China! A partial eclipse, however, could be viewed over most of Asia and Europe, as well as a tiny part of far northeastern North America. A solar eclipse happens when another object in space blocks the light of the sun on it’s way to earth – usually it’s the moon. A lunar eclipse happens when the earth gets in between the sun and the moon and casts a shadow across the moon. There are plenty of pictures online of this phenomenon, taken in the far corners of the world, and showing how people across the earth enjoy viewing this natural wonder. Ask your parents first, and then go to Yahoo news to check them out!
