Daring Denim

06.23.09

Tired of wearing the same old jeans you wear all year long? The newest look in denim is to make it look like you never take it off. Distressed denim is making its way back into the fashion lifestyles of actresses, women and girls across the country. If you're not feeling quite as daring, a few frayed holes in the legs of your jeans will keep you with the times. Or if you're feeling risky, try denim that is shredded up the front of the legs. You can even make these looks at home, but you'll probably need help from an adult because it involves bleach. To lighten an old pair of shorts or jeans, put them in a bucket of water & add 1-2 cups of bleach. Let the denim sit until the denim is as light as you desire. This could be a few hours or a few days. Then wash out the bleach, but make sure to not get it on any other clothes!!! You can create holes by sanding them or cutting them with scissors. The next time you wash the clothing, the holes will fray. Have fun with this look because it's perfect for Summer with tanks & bathing suits!

Headband Heaven

Just when you think your day is ruined because of a bad hair day, think again! This Spring's fun trend of oversized headbands is here to play super hero to your unruly locks. All you have to do is slip on one of these hip headbands to look polished, make a statement, get noticed AND do it all on the cheap! Now, that's my kind of accessory. You can even take scarves you already own, fold them and tie them at the nape of your neck to create your own headband. If you're really feeling like bringing out your inner Blair Waldorf, don the ones that have flowers, bows and feathers attached. Fashion should be fun and daring! Or if you're feeling really crafty this summer, get your hands on a glue gun, buy a pack of inexpensive plastic headbands, find some fake flowers or knick-knacks and make your own, unique headband. With your new look, get ready to turn heads!

Mellow Yellow

If you wanna be the hottest thing on the Summertime block, you need to get down with the yellow. This is THE color that you want to brighten your wardrobe this Spring & Summer. You can't help but feel happy while wearing yellow. All shades of yellow will be rockin' this season. If you're pale, a light yellow will look best with your skin tone. if you have a medium skin tone, darker shades of yellow look better. Go for bright yellow to stand out if you have very dark OR very pale skin. Wearing yellow will make you feel like walking sunshine! Or a big piece of lemony candy! If you're a little sunshiny shy, stick to accessories, or yellow accented clothes.

Birds of a Feather

04.08.09

Fashion is feather friendly for Spring 2009! This fun trend was seen all over the Spring runways, but on gowns and outfits that definitely aren't for everyday wear. But designers have altered the look into wearable, affordable looks that anyone can rock. You can find flighty accessories like headbands and hair clips, necklaces and earrings, or even decorating hems of fancy dresses. Some designers are making metal shaped feather earrings & necklaces & shirts with pictures of feathers. So if you're unsure of clipping feathers in your hair, that can be a safer way to go. What a fantastic way to say adieu to cold Winter months than to resemble our feathered friends of Spring! Let's take a peek at some of the looks...  feather_dress_400feather_hairclipfeather_necklacefeather_necklace2

Romp it Out!

03.31.09

Remember when you were a baby and you wore those ultra-comfortable onesies? You know, a top & bottom but connected to be one piece? Okay, would you wear them now? Well, rompers have been sneaking their way onto the fashion scene since last summer, but are making a big comeback for Spring/Summer 2009.

 blueromper_400silkromper_400

Some think they look childish, some think worn the right way at the right place, they can be chic or casually kewl. Most of the styles that are hitting the stores are more appropriate for summertime fun, maybe a beach cover up, bbq or running around town. Fancier rompers made of delicate fabric and worn with heels and belted at the waist have also been making appearances at clubs across the country. With rompers, you get the convenience of wearing a dress (you just throw it on without having to figure out matching tops to bottoms) but the casual ease if you're not into wearing a skirt that day. And you don't have to worry about a gust of wind showing the world your undies!

                                                                nicole_shopping_400

They come in halter style, tube top, crew neck, button up, you name it. The price range can be anywhere from $20-$200, depending on the style that you're looking for. In fact, this cool staffer wore a romper to her birthday bash last year and received a million complements. Cute, comfy, stylish and kewl. What else could you want out of an item in your closet?!

Spring 2009 Style Trends!

alicia_keyes_4003.04.09

It's all about color! Big, jewel-toned color! Like hot, salmoney reds, eye-popping fuschias, seductive blues, brilliant yellows and rich greens. As evidenced at the 81st Academy Awards a couple of weeks ago, color is the new black! Then you've got the cool lavendars and greys which go great together.

Alicia Keyes is drop dead gorgeous in this strapless lavendar chiffon dress. The slit up the side keeps it sexy without going over the top (or the bottom in this case!)

natalie_portman_400

Natalie Portman is stunning in fuschia. And she's such a class act. She looks great in just about anything. This color is so versatile. It looks great on Natalie's fair skin and Alicia's golden brown skin as well.

Amanda Seyfried sparkles in this slammin' salmon number. amanda_seyfried_400 It doesn't hurt that her blonde hair has some strawberry tones in it that glisten next the salmon.  This color isn't for everyone. It's best on blondes with fair skin.

heidi_klum_400 Heidi Klum works her magic on the red carpet in this fire-engine red, off-the-shoulder dynamo. Does she ever look bad? No, seriously? And she's just having so much darn fun with it all! Good for her!

Samantha Harris (Dancing with the Stars, E! Entertainment and Extra) is looking quite smashing in a royal blue dress. samantha_harris_400What's great about these bright colors is that almost anyone can wear them. There's only one color that gets a little tricky on fair-skinned gals: the golden yellow that you are going to see everywhere. Some people will get a way with it, some won't.

Stay tuned for more Spring 2009 Style Trends!

Grey Days Again!

What is it with grey this year?!?  We had a bunch of it in the spring, and heck if it’s not back in full force now!  All over the place; at premieres, club openings, and even at an Oscar’s preview jewelry show, the girls were out showing off their grey… or is it gray?!?  I’m a fan of ‘grey’, so bear with me, as there are no rules about the correct spelling of grey!!!  If it’s your name, you can choose.  Otherwise, it’s all up to the user!  And these clothing choices prove it in the way they switch fabrics and styles from girl to girl.  Go Grey, Girl!

annasophia_grey_400

Anna Sophia Robb looks like she’s growing up in this still-girly strapless grey dress!  Despite the fact that it is the middle of winter in the northern hemisphere, most of our girls are wearing rather flirty spring-y dress styles!  I guess the coat check is right before the red carpet!

jaynewisener_gray_400Jayne Wisnener, who you might recognize as the young ingénue Joanna in the musical film “Sweeney Todd” is shown here at her premiere in London.  Now we KNOW it’s cold there, so the girl is very brave in this short and strapless number, that is daring also in it’s asymmetrical front hem and slip hemline!  Yep!  It looked like that in every picture, so it’s not just a static cling issue!  And why not?  The slip is every bit as pretty as the over material!

jenniferlove_grey_400A few of our ‘grey girls’ were at the same party in Hollywood, showing jewels to the stars in hopes that they will wear them to any one of the awards shows coming up in Hollywood.  Jennifer Love Hewitt showed up in a romantic chiffon number that let her look her lovely self, whether or not she’s a size 4!

sarahjanemorris_grey_400Also on hand was Sarah Jane Morris, looking much more in the season with her wool sheath dress – such the elegant and classic look!  The red belt and shoes ties the look together, without making it look like a school girl uniform!

mollysimms_grey_400Molly Simms managed to go grey and sparkly in this very sixties choice while partying up in Vegas!  Now relax, people!  She’s there to accept the keys to the city for her role on the hit TV show “Las Vegas”!  Nothing fishy going on here!

miley_premiere_400_01And finally, your girl and mine, Miley heats up her very own concert film premiere with a dress in many shades of grey!!!  Bravo to Miley for letting herself wear the sparkles and fashion for once, and not leaving all the fun for Hannah!

And you thought grey was just for the older ladies in the crowd!  Pshaw!  Now, get out there, and find the grey that’s makes everyone say “Hey!”

Amanda's a DEAR

 showimg1.pl_400August 21, 2007

Amanda Bynes launched her new clothing line earlier this month at Steve and Barry's Store - Manhattan Mall / New York City, NY. The line is called "dear BY amanda bynes'.

(from dearbyamanda.com

What is dear?
dear is first-ever apparel line launched by comedic actress and Hollywood "it" girl Amanda Bynes, to be sold exclusively at Steve & Barry's stores nationwide beginning August 16th. Every piece in the line is priced at $19.98 or less.

Can you describe the collection?
The dear brand delivers the cost-conscious values of Steve & Barry's to a new demographic by catering to a younger woman who wants to be stylish on a budget.

The dear collection will offer more than 120 pieces of clothing including denim jeans, casual pants, dresses, fitted polos, and graphic hoodies at launch. 28 accessory styles including shoes, hats, bags, belts and over 70 pieces of jewelry are also included in the collection. Outerwear including down vests and jackets will also be introduced.

Why did Amanda Bynes choose to partner with Steve & Barry's?

Amanda decided to partner with Steve & Barry's after learning of the company's philosophy - to offer high quality merchandise at the lowest prices possible, while helping change the mindset that people have to spend a lot for great clothes.

It's an important message for teens to know that they don't need to spend a fortune on clothes to look great and have the confidence that goes along with that.

The items in the dear collection were created so girls can shop for a whole wardrobe - with plenty of pieces to mix and match - and still have money left to go and show off their cute new looks.

How are you able to make the dear merchandise so inexpensive?

Steve & Barry's has revolutionized retailing by eliminating costs from every aspect of the business, including marketing, production, store operations and corporate expenses. For example, the company relies on word of mouth marketing vs. traditional advertising, analyzes the smallest details such as how to pack a truck to the most efficient ways possible, sources in non-traditional regions of the world, and eliminates luxuries other businesses take for granted.

Where does the dear name come from?
The dear collection reflects Amanda's personal sense of style and comfort - casual, fun items of clothing every girl will love to live in. Amanda created pieces for girls to hold dear' for years to come.
